Kicking Sideways by Dina Keratsis

At sixteen years old, Cree Cabot is forced to give up her dreams of music and freedom and become an adult fast to take care of her little brother. Years later, she’s like a robot, always working and never playing, making her a very dull person. Seth, her little brother, is the only one who really knows how she used to be and wishes she were that person again. Along with Seth, a caring, loving old woman name Ellen who has been with them this whole time, knows deep down Cree needs a man to love her like she deserves. These two are mischievously concocting a plan to finally get Cree out of her shell and see that life is more enjoyable when you live each day to the fullest.

Mike Sullivan is a man with a vision that comes to life in his comic books and in the way he speaks his mind. He’s always enjoyed life and can’t stand to see that Cree is the opposite, never living, always working and never taking time to relax. Each time he’s with her, he sees a little bit of the energetic and happy person Seth says she used to be. When Cree lets go, it’s like a light breaking through a dark sky but then she retreats back into her shell making her the same robot woman everybody sees her as. He wants to see Cree for the woman she is and what she could become: a woman in love and of love. Can he succeed and show Cree that love does exist and that he will be there for her forever?

Kicking Sideways is a tale of love enduring everything. Cree’s sacrificed everything after her mother killed herself. Now that she’s got a man who is interested in her, she doesn’t know what to do. I especially loved the secondary characters like Seth who is young but understands that people must do things they aren’t ready to do. He sees Cree do everything except the most important thing likre enjoying life, which he understand even though he’s a teenager. I also liked old Ellen, a woman who’s got so much spunk and spirit in her, even at her age. These two are smart and clever. As for Cree and Mike, you can instantly see how in love these two are, yet Cree always pulls back. Sometimes I got annoyed at that but the reader will understand why when they read the book. Dina Keratsis created Cree like a superhero at times, always taking care of others and then you feel sorry for her when you see her vulnerable. Mike is the perfect man for her and completes her in so many ways. Dina Keratsis did a fabulous job in this book with so much pain, love and heartache. There are times when you cry but then, through it all, you will not want to put it down and will regret finishing it so soon. This is definitely a recommended read for this is truly one of those books that is worth keeping.

A Corpse in the Soup -
Morgan St James and Phyllice Bradner

Godiva Olivia Dubois, Beverly Hills syndicated
advice columnist who writes "Ask G.O.D.",
receives a disturbing letter from a "Mr. Clean,"
claiming to know his mission is to rid the world
of a monster.

Concerned, then dismissive   -- Godiva stuffs
the letter deep into her pocket and soon forgets
about it. G.O.D.'s to-be-read letter pile is growing
larger, so she entices Chili, her niece from Alaska,
to fly down to California to help out, with a bribe
of very hot tickets to a famous chef's cooking show.
At the taping, Godiva and two other audience
members are invited to the stage for a tasty
cooking sample from Chef Romano, whereupon
all three collapse to the floor.

Godiva's identical twin, Goldie Silver, rushes to
her sister's side at the hospital, where Chef
Romano puts in an appearance in an attempt to
romance the sickened columnist away from any
thoughts of a lawsuit. He discloses that this is
not the first bizarre incident on the set of his
cooking show, and the fun begins.

Chef Romano hopes to defend his title as last year's reigning champion of the Gourmet Gladiators Tournament, doggedly concerned with showing up his chief rival, Chef Biff Wellington. The four chefs in the contest prepare such dishes as Alligator Goulash with Plantain Pirogues and desserts such as Seaweed Sponge cake.

Murder and near-murders abound in this hysterical light romantic comedy mystery starring the amateur sleuth sisters and their mother and uncle sidekicks. Goldie and Godiva are the proverbial country mouse and city mouse, reading each other's thoughts when it suits them, while getting to the bottom of other people's business all over LA and Beverly Hills.

Read "A Corpse in the Soup" for yourself! The writing team of Morgan St. James and Phyllice Bradner are certainly slated to become very famous names in the fiction world.

" Enjoyed the story! Haven't had this much fun solving a mystery since Burke's Law on TV."

A CORPSE IN THE SOUP is a tongue-in-cheek, fast-paced romp through the world of primetime cooking spiced with Hollywood glamour. It stars the two hilarious, wise-cracking, crime-busting Silver sisters. You’ll be kept guessing at the mystery, laughing at the banter between the characters and groaning at the backfires in the situations they plan. Plan on falling in love with the two riotous crime detectives because this story is totally over-the top, and after all, this is L.A.

Of Water and Dragons, Celtic Fantasy Romance by Kelley Heckart

They were destined to meet, but were they destined to be together?

Of Water and Dragons takes place on the mystical island of Britannia from the dark enchanted lochs of Scotland to the grand bathhouses of Roman Britain. The battle of Mons Graupius in AD 84 is one of the most profound battles in history when the Romans, though greatly outnumbered, defeat the Celtic tribes of Scotland and further the expansion of the Roman Empire.

Here, in this untamed land the Romans call Caledonia, lives Nemu (Nay-Moo), a half-human, half-water faery woman.  Soon after the battle ends, she finds a wounded Roman soldier named Ambiorix.  Despite her distrust of humans, she takes him in and heals his wounds.  Though they are from different worlds, they are mysteriously drawn to each other, but unforeseen forces keep them apart until their worlds collide in a fury of fire, blood and darkness.

Of Water and Dragons weaves together the Roman history and Celtic lore of ancient Britain to create an unforgettable story of love and sacrifice.
