Why eBooks?
People are beginning to
realize the convenience of shopping on line. You can shop for your next book at
Wings ePress from anywhere. You don't have to dress or apply makeup to shop.
There is no need to take the car to the bookstore. E-books give you the
possibility of reading your book in five minutes. There is no need to wait for
the mailman to bring it to you.
E-books are also popular, because they're cheaper than trade paperbacks.
E-books are
award winning fiction that
you can buy easily and for a great price. .
Wings ePress gives you the option of buying either a
convenient e-book, or a trade paperback. Wings can accomodate your thirst for
great fiction, no matter which medium you prefer.
How do
you read an eBook?
What
is an eBook?
e-Books
are novels in an electronic format. These are like files on your computer.
Readers can read them on their computers or other readers (see information below
for more details.) e-Books have beautiful covers, the same credits and
dedications, etc, They contain everything you would find in a paperback.
You don't
want to read a book on your computer? There is a wide variety of e-book readers.
You can download your new e-books into a reader you've purchased. The process is
like saving a file to floppy disk, except an eReader is a hand held gadget. Load
the books and you can take your eReader wherever you want and read your novel.
This is a convenient way to take several books with you in a compact package.
How many of us take a tote bag of books to the beach? Do you have bookshelves
that are overflowing with books. e-Books save storage space at home and on
vacation.

Peterson's e-book FAQ's.
I want to share a fascinating
article from a friend about the advantages of ebooks.
12 Advantages to E-Books
by: Diana Laurence
#1: Instant gratification. Have a craving to read
the latest Diana Laurence? (LOL) Go to your PC, go to Amazon, and in the time it
takes to say, “Borders is five miles away and closed right now,” you can buy it.
In minutes you’ll be reading that book without leaving your house.
#2: Cost savings. You save a few dollars on every title you buy. You could
purchase 30% more books and still have money left over to buy chocolate!
#3: Environmental consciousness. How many trees died to make that book? Not a
one, and almost no energy was consumed to produce it either. And will it end up
in a landfill? Nope!
#4: Portability. Imagine having a library of good reading at your fingertips
wherever you go: the office, the dentist’s waiting room, your hotel, the bus.
You won’t need a backpack, hon.
#5: Legibility. Those of us with aging eyes really benefit here. The best eBook
reader software even allows you to adjust font size to what works best for you.
Even if you forgot your reading glasses!
#6: Legibility, part two. An ereader is backlit, people! You can read in the
darkest corner of your house without a problem. You can read in bed while your
husband sleeps!
#7: Ease of use. So you say you “like the feel of a real book”? Do you like what
a pain it is to prop it up while lying on your side in bed? And is turning pages
really too fun to give up? Picture yourself reading easily with one hand; it’s
great while eating. Imagine how nice it is to go to the next page with a nearly
imperceptible effort.
#8: Ease of use, part two. Your ebook bookmarks itself, so you’ll never lose
your place. Some ereading programs are searchable, so you can easily locate that
scene you want to read to a friend.
#9: Privacy. Ever wish you could read a book and not have everyone in the
doctor’s office know what it is? For those who like a spicy title now and then,
this is definitely a plus.
#10: Longevity. There will be no wear and tear to your ebook, and if you keep a
copy in your PC library, you don’t have to worry about losing it either. You can
keep it forever and reread it as much as you like.
#11: A bigger reward to your favorite author. Ebook royalties are higher than
those for print books due to low production cost and overhead. That author you
love will make a little more money, even though you paid less!
#12: Compactness. I’ll grant you, a lot of people take pride in collecting and
displaying their hundreds of books. But if you aren’t that crazy about dusting,
organizing (and losing track of titles anyway), dealing with a bazillion pounds
of book boxes when you move, or having to throw books away because there’s no
more room, then ebooks are for you. Just think of yourself by the year 2020,
your thousand titles neatly organized and taking up no space at all!
“The Life of e” is a monthly column by Diana Laurence, a romance author who
specializes in “erotica with soul.” She is the author of the 2005 Eppie Award
Finalist and Amazon bestseller “Soulful Sex: Erotic Tales of Fantasy and
Romance.” Her new collection “Soulful Sex Volume 2” is available for sale. Learn

Some special characteristics
that are particular to ebooks......which appeal to you?
 | Portable: E-Books are incredibly portable. This is a very easy way to carry a wonderful
variety of books with you. Remember the heavy and awkward tote bag of books
that you take on vacation? With an e-book reader, you carry your e-book reader
with dozens of books. |
 | Easy to Store:
Dozens of novels fit on your hard drive. You can store a library on your
computer and on CD's. |
 | Easy to Hold and Turn Pages:
Paperback novels can be difficult to handle. Constantly holding the book open
and fighting to turn pages can be a miserable chore for voracious readers. If
manipulating a book is a challenge you'd just as soon leave to others, e-books
will simplify your reading world. Carpal tunnel sufferers should try e-book
readers. |
 | For those of us who are physically
disabled, the computer is an indispensible tool for our lives. Since some are
in html format, you can turn pages with a mouse or track ball rather than with
your fingers. E-books make it possible and comfortable to read a rainy day
away or late into the night.
|
 | Various Format: There are many formats available from most publishers.
|
 | Are you a business person who flies a
lot, then you probably take your laptop with you. This is the perfect
opportunity to enjoy an e-book.
|
 | If you eat your lunch in your office
cubicle, install an e-book on your company computer, and escape into a good
story during your lunch break. |
 | If you enjoy reading in bed, prop up
your pillow, pop out your lap top or e-book reader, and read into the wee
hours of the morning. |

Cytale Reader from France
An
electronic reader that will be available in France received a very warm welcome
at the NIST e-book conference at the end of September, 2000. It will be
retailing at about US$ 600 before tax, with a 10-inch SVGA color screen, a
capacity of 20,000 pages and access to the Internet. Cytale's Electronic Book or
CyBook as it will be called, accepts any digital documents that conform
to the Open E-Book standard or the HTML format and uses Windows CE as the
operating system.
Weighing 2 pounds, it is scheduled to be on sale in France at the end of
November according to their site at Cytale.com
with other countries to follow.
Desktop or Laptop Computer
You also have the option of reading ebooks on a computer screen. This can be
a laptop or desktop. It makes no difference. I downloaded a free reader file for
my PDA and it also has a Reader program to use on your computer. It offers the
features to change the font size and also has screen scroll feature. It's a
wonderful free program from Mobipocket. Go to
www.mobipocket.com
This are only some of the options on the market.
